for my last photo class, my project was using the designs and patterns found in different types of rocks to create my own landscapes. I was surprised how some of them resembled landscapes and other things in nature so well.
Most of them ended up looking like trees or forests.
This one, my class and I agreed that it looked like trees with the Aurora Borealis in the background. It's actually a slab of labradorite rock.
I really enjoyed this series, so I will probably be posting more from it

beautiful...the geologist in me had a little geek out moment seeing the labradorite. Did you just take a picture of the slab or did you use anything special?
hehe yeah labradorite is a pain in the butt to shoot though! had to be at just the right angle to get the colors to show up, and another one I have had to constantly be wet
I used a macro lens for this b/c the part i wanted was just a tiny little section of the rock
